Interviewer: Could you introduce yourself first?
Dragana Smiljanić: Dragana Smiljanić from Lipljan. I have been living in Laplje Selo for 13 years. I got an apartment from the Government of Kosovo.
Dragana Smiljanić: How do you remember the period before the war?
Dragana Smiljanić: Before?! Before the nineties, it was good, after the nineties it was chaos. Even small children are taught from a young age to shout „democracy“. I couldn’t cross the street from them. That’s it. Demonstrations and various moments. Various events.
Interviewer: What do you remember from the war period and how did you leave your home?
Dragana Smiljanić: Well, protests, psychological and physical attacks. You couldn’t go out peacefully. Not with all, with some. So not with everyone, with some. With some, they were with us, both good and bad. So I can’t separate that. Because I lived in the same street with… we were half and half. So some were normal, some were not. As with us, the same.
Interviewer: Before the war, did you have good relations with your Albanian neighbors?
Dragana Smiljanic: Before?! I already said that not since the nineties. Before the nineties, yes, we went to each other’s houses. And weddings and celebrations and congratulations, both bad and good.
Interviewer: Do you think we can put the war behind us and build a better society in Kosovo together?
Dragana Smiljanić: I think it can happen that too. Yes, it can 100% because the people as a people think differently. Government as government, completely different. So politics is a weird thing.
