Interviewer: Good afternoon.

Interviewee: Good afternoon.

Interviewer: I would ask you to introduce yourself, if it’s not a problem, or you want the interview to be anonymous?

Interviewee: I am a retired physical education teacher, Dobrivoje Jovanović.

Interviewer: What do you remember in the period before the war in Kosovo? Describe to me that period, How did people live then?

Interviewee: They were great, brotherhood-unity. All factories were working, everything was peaceful, no one was harassing anyone, and no one was teasing anyone, as it is now.

Interviewer: Were there any tensions and pressures felt even then?

Interviewee: They were not felt because the government was strong and took care of every man’s behavior.

Interviewer: Can you describe to me the situation in the period from 98 to 99, that is, the situation during the war?

Interlocutor For the year 98-99, it had already started, it started very badly for Albanians and Serbs and for everyone. Everyone who lived in Kosovo. However, the policy of foreign countries had caused to disintegrate our state that lived. Yugoslavia lived for 70 years. They broke it up…, and now nationalism has taken hold among all areas; Albanian and Serbian and Romani, everywhere, all, all. Everyone looks to emphasize themselves to be stronger, to be better, etc. and in fact, without working and without an economy, everyone lives modestly and normally.

Interviewer: Did you feel any pressure during that period?

Interviewee: In that period, it had already started to be stated, to be talked about, that Albanian nationalism is on the surface and that it wants to expel all other nations and nationalities from the province. To cleanse the province of non-Albanians.

Interviewer: Have you ever felt the pressure to leave your home, to leave Kosovo?

Interviewee: We felt it, but we did not leave our home because we were born here and we believe that everything will pass and come in its own place, but when – we will see.

Interviewer: Can the war be overcome and left in the past, and continue with normal life in Kosovo?

Interviewee: Yes, of course. Let all the people who left their homes return, let them come back, and the Albanians need to reduce the tension, to live with all…, in the mixed villages. Žegra, Vlaštica, Žitinje, Vitina, many areas were mixed areas where Albanians and Serbs and Roma and Turks lived. Today, everything was cleansed except that there is some Serb population in Kamenica, and…, and in Cernica, the village of Cernica, a couple of families remained. And, everything was chased away by Albanians, nationalists. Not all Albanians are guilty.
