“The future starts by knowing the past.”

The exodus of refugees during the recent war in Kosovo is an essential part of our past and present, given that around 1 million people have left their homes. However, memorialization and documentation of refugee experiences is still missing, by prioritizing the stories of heroes and martyrs. People’s stories continue to remain silent in the absence of space to be heard.

Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Kosovo, as an organization devoted to the process of dealing with the past in the region, is establishing the Virtual Museum of Refugees. This museum will contribute to the symbolic recognition of the suffering of civilians from all ethnic groups during the war in Kosovo. Also, through this initiative we intend to promote an inclusive public debate for the past and to increase social empathy by publishing various stories.
